Medical Scribe

Job Responsibilities:

Maintains a record of care during patient visits to the clinic by transcribing the contents of a patient’s chart as dictated by the provider, entering these into the clinic’s electronic health record, and ensuring that all aspects of the chart have been completed before it is signed by the provider.

Pay and Benefits:

This position is being hired for up to 36 hours. $15/hour during training, increases to $17/hour once scribe has been signed off from training, then increases to $18/hour when scribe has passed 6 month probation.

Job Duties:

  • Charts history of present illness, review of systems, physical exam findings, and assessment and plan
  • Records medication, family, surgical/hospital, and social history
  • Completes all forms within the chart as necessary for billing, follow-up care, and HRSA grant compliance utilizing UDS measures
  • Assists the provider with equipment acquisition and set-up
  • Provides courteous assistance to patients when necessary (e.g. getting them a glass of water or pillow to lay on)
  • Maintains compliance with HIPAA guidelines

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 6 months experience as a medical scribe
  • Time management

  • Oral and written communication
  • Familiarity with electronic health records
  • 60+ WPM typing speed with low rate of error

Now Hiring: Medical Assistant

This position is responsible for assisting our providers in effectively providing excellent patient care.

Pay and Benefits:

This position is being hired for up to 40 hours weekly at a rate of $18/hr. Benefits include medical, dental, vision insurance and standard sick/vacation pay.

Responsibilities:

  1. Perform routine assisting duties for the Medical Director, physicians and volunteer physicians under direct, onsite supervision of an MD or RN as approved by the Medical Director.  This will include but not be limited to obtaining vital signs, patient medical history, presenting problem & maintain examination/treatment rooms.
  2. Assist with examinations, procedures and treatments.
  3. Help maintain medical records to insure quality (includes patient history, problem lists, vital signs, patient communications, immunizations & medications) and act as “scribe” during patient visits.
  4. Scrubbing charts for upcoming appointments. Looking for recent labs, imaging, outside consultation notes, recent hospital records, and/or new medical records.
  5. Educate the patient within the scope of practice and as directed by supervising physician in health maintenance, disease prevention, and compliance with patients’ treatment plan.
  6. Perform procedural and diagnostic coding for reimbursement.
  7. Care Coordination:  Serve as “communication liaison” between the physician and patient by assisting the patient in communicating their needs to the physician.
  8. Screen and follow-up test results.
  9. Perform electrocardiography, ear lavage, Snellen eye chart, and other tests in the clinic.
  10. Sterilization of surgical instruments.  Inventory of supplies and equipment.
  11. Make sure rooms are well kept and stocked.
  12. Deep clean patient rooms every Friday
  13. Perform blood draws.
  14. Process blood, urine, specimens, etc…. Ready specimens to be sent to the lab.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum one year experience in a medical practice.
  2. Ability to work with a wide range of clients including low/no income and homeless adults recognizing and respecting cultural diversity.
  3. Ability to utilize and apply medical terminology appropriately.
  4. Receive, organize, prioritize, store and maintain transmittable information utilizing electronic technology.
  5. Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Internet, etc.) and the ability to effectively learn and/or utilize Electronic Health Records.
  6. Ability to identify and respond to issues of confidentiality. Knowledge of HIPAA.
  7. Understanding of Standard Precautions, including hand washing and disposal of bio-hazardous materials.
  8. Willingness to participate in continuing education.
  9. Complete White Bird New Volunteer/Staff Training (NVT).
  10. A SENSE OF HUMOR!!

Preferred:

  1. Current Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant by a recognized certification body.
  2. Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  3. Experience in working in a consensus environment.

Now Hiring: Back Office Nurse

This Nurse is responsible for working at the top of their license as a member of the care team with a focus on chronic care. The qualified nurse will provide nursing care in a primary care clinic including triage, nurse visits, coordination of care, and patient education to strengthen patients’ health care self-management.

Pay and Benefits:

This position is being hired for up to 36 h/week, and the salary is equivalent to $30.00/hr.

Job Description

  1. Perform patient triage both face to face and via the phone. Assess and prioritize patients’ need for care including referral to local Emergency Departments, Urgent Care, and/or White Bird Medical for a provider or nurse visit. Provide advice, written resource information, and or referrals to address social determinants of health and medical care not addressed at White Bird Medical.
  2. Support providers and their care teams by coordinating complex patient care needs.
  3. Utilize the nursing process to complete “nurse visits” following standing orders and nursing protocols.
  4. Act as liaison between White Bird Medical, patient and community medical agencies & diagnostic facilities to ensure quality and continuity of care.
  5. Sterilization of surgical instruments, managing supplies in treatment rooms, and oversight of general cleanliness & order in the back office.
  6. Assist Front Office Reception including help with managing patient appointments and scheduling, acting as a resource for clinical questions.
  7. Collaborate with White Bird Medical staff – behavioral health, referral, front desk, providers, medical assistants, scribes.
  8. Coordinate services for patients with other White Bird programs including, but not exclusive to Chrysalis, Counseling, Crisis, Cahoots, NEST, Homeless, Front Rooms, Dental.
  9. Provide “Care Management” for a limited number of high utilization / high risk patients to reduce return rate & ER visits and improve quality of care.
  10. Participate in continuous improvement of procedures, policies and materials affecting the Medical Clinic and its patients
  11. Ability and willingness to work in an EMR (electronic) environment and to meet or exceed the documentation requirements required to meet Meaningful Use and other clinical quality benchmarks required by our grant funders and clinic accepted initiatives.
  12. Provide support to volunteer providers by rooming patients, assisting with procedures, assisting with following clinic policies, and ensuring EHR documentation at the completion of shift.
  13. Complete White Bird Employee Orientation (NVT)

  2. Minimum 2 years experience working as an RN with experience in the delivery of primary care.
  3. Experience working with educating clients with chronic medical conditions.

Now Hiring: Community Health Nurse (6-month Temporary Position)

This Nurse is a member of the White Bird Community Health Team. The qualified nurse will have experience supervising staff and providing nursing care to patients with acute and chronic conditions at the White Bird Medical Clinic and other community partner sites.

This position is being hired for up to 36 hours/week, and the salary is equivalent to $30.00/hr.

  2. Supervise White Bird Community Health staff and manage daily clinic functions.
