Fiscal Assistant


  • Process bi-weekly payroll for 180+ hourly employees using Paychex, including garnishments, benefits and taxes according to federal and state wage and hour regulations.
  • Work with Program Coordinators to ensure all timecards are approved and accurate.
  • Assist with new employee set-up as well as changes to existing employee positions, pay, etc.
  • Help answer general payroll inquiries from employees.
  • Audit a mixture of pay codes with corresponding workers’ compensation codes.
  • Audit vacation and sick time accruals.
  • Prepare and/or create payroll-related reports as needed.
  • Support daily operations of the accounting department.
  • Duties related to non profit fiscal management of grants and contracts.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Associates degree preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience processing payroll in a medium to large company.
  • Familiarity with Paychex Flex payroll system.
  • General accounting experience and knowledge of GAAP.
  • Non profit industry and grant accounting experience helpful.

Outdoor Outreach Worker

A member of the Front Rooms Team, this position maintains a safe place outside 341 and 323 E 12th, the parking lot, alleys and nearby public right-of-ways. This includes training responsibilities.


  1. 6 month experience in a White Bird service program, or 2 years’ direct service provision in a non-profit, preferably with a homeless population.
  2. Ability and willingness to work outdoors in all climates and to stay on feet during shift.
  3. Ability to multi-task.
  4. Ability to stay calm, kind, non-judgmental with a variety of vulnerable clients.
  5. No conviction for predatory crime.
  6. Complete CPR and First Aid training within one month of hire.
  7. Comply with confidentiality and HIPAA policies.
  8. A sense of humor!

Staff Physician

This position is being hired for up to 25 hours per week, and the salary is equivalent to $80/hr.

Staff Physicians are responsible for healthcare delivery in an integrated, team-based, evidence based Patient Centered Medical Home.

Back Office RN – Relief Pool

This relief pool position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the medical clinic’s back office including triage of unscheduled patients or potential patients, nurse visits, completing medical records, rooming patients, orienting volunteer RNs, completing referrals and diagnostics ordered by physician, and assisting the physician with treatment oriented needs as requested.

Pay and Benefits

This position is being hired for per diem coverage up to 32 hours/week, and the wage is $24/hr.

Job Description


  1. Perform routine assisting duties for physician as needed and within scope of practice including, but not limited to referral coordination, lab follow-up calls, and med fills
  2. Complete “nurse visits” that fall within scope of practice and consult with the physician in the delivery of straight forward medical care
  3. Act as liaison between practice, patient and community medical agencies & diagnostic facilities to insure quality and continuity of care
  4. Sterilization of surgical instruments, maintaining supplies in treatment rooms, and working toward general cleanliness & order in back office
  5. Assist Front Office Reception
  6. Perform triage function at morning walk-in clinic. Specifically identify patients who need immediate referral to local Emergency Departments with patient report phoned to receiving facility. Identify and request registration of patients to be seen by physician(s) and ask to obtain record from outside providers that might be of help in physician’s office visit. Identify and request registration of patients to be seen as nurse visits. Provide advice and written resource information to those patients who cannot be seen
  7. Perform functions associated with Care Coordination and Care Management including: processing referrals, generating lab orders, contacting patients regarding lab results, approving medication refill requests for non-scheduled medications, and answering phone and in-person questions related to patient care
  8. Provide “Care Management” for a limited number of high utilization / high risk patients to reduce return rate & ER visits and improve quality of care
  9. Be willing to contribute to the continuous improvement of procedures, policies and materials affecting the Medical Clinic and its patients
  10. Possess ability and willingness to work in an EMR (electronic) environment and to meet or exceed the documentation requirements required to meet Meaningful Use and other clinical quality benchmarks required by any and all of our grant funders and clinic accepted initiatives
  11. Room patients for and provide support to volunteer providers and insure that they have completed EMR documentation at the completion of their shifts

Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

White Bird Clinic is a collective environment organized to enable people to gain control of their social, emotional, and physical well-being through direct service, education, and community. Our Medical Clinic is one branch of a larger nonprofit organization alongside dental care, counseling, crisis services, and more. We are a Primary Care Medical Home serving some of Eugene’s most vulnerable populations. We have a diverse group of patients including people with substance use diagnoses, chronic conditions, mental health diagnoses, trauma history, and social and behavioral barriers to care. We are looking for someone who is experienced with our population and comfortable diagnosing and treating patients with comorbid conditions.

This position is responsible for providing direct patient care to our medical clinic’s patients and supporting the Medical Director/Staff Physician as needed.

Pay and Benefits: This position is being hired for up to 0.5 FTE, and the salary is equivalent to $48/hr. This position is eligible for student loan repayment through the National Health Services Corps.

1.    Provide direct patient care as directed by the Clinic’s Medical Director. Assess, evaluate, diagnose, prescribe, and follow up with Clinic’s mental health patients.
2.    Review lab results and process medication refill requests as directed by the Clinic’s Medical Director / Staff Physician.
3.    Maintain charts to ensure quality of patient records including training as needed to effectively use our NextGen EHR system.
4.    Assist Front Office Reception staff in answering patients’ medical questions.

Referral & Insurance Specialist

This position is a liaison between White Bird Medical Clinic and specialty clinics, pharmacies, DME suppliers, insurance companies, and other outside agencies. The objective of the position is to facilitate care coordination, provide robust documentation, and act as a problem solving point person in external agency processes. The referral and insurance specialist is responsible for processing and following up on referrals, processing prior authorizations for prescriptions and DME orders, dealing with prescription and insurance issues, fulfilling medical records requests, and performing other clerical operations related to clinical care as needed.


1. Process all referrals, including creating referral sheets with all relevant information, sending corresponding records, following up on referral process with external offices and documenting appropriately.
2. Process prior authorization requests for medications and DME, including ordering DME from suppliers, and documenting appropriately.
3. Resolve insurance problems that arise between the clinic, the insurance companies, and/or specialty providers as needed.
4. Resolve insurance related issues with pharmacies and/or patient prescription issues.
5. Copy and send patient records for billing purposes, to specialty clinics we refer to, and to fulfill medical records requests from outside agencies.
6. Send invoices to appropriate agencies for medical records requests.
7. Continuously monitor incoming faxes, distribute faxes to appropriate staff and upload documents into EHR charts.
8. Attend weekly staff meetings as directed as well as additional meetings as scheduled.

A member of the Front Room Team, this position manages the living room’s homeless day access services, maintaining a safe place both inside and outside 341 East 12th and includes training responsibilities. In the absence of the Receptionist, provides after hours phone reception for all White Bird programs.

Probation of 6 months

CAHOOTS Crisis Intervention Worker


  1. Work CAHOOTS shifts patrolling the streets and parks of Eugene and Springfield as dispatched by 911.
  2. Assume primary responsibility for making mental health assessments of clients and for providing crisis counseling.
  3. Attend required department and clinic meetings and share in other responsibilities as relevant.
  4. Complete all required trainings, including defensive driver training through the City of Eugene as arranged by White Bird Clinic.
  5. Be commissioned by the City of Eugene as a Transportation Officer to perform the duties set forth in ORS 430.399, i.e., to decide whether to transport an intoxicated person to a treatment facility. In no case will CAHOOTS transport anyone over their expressed objections.
  6. Complete White Bird’s New Volunteer Training within four months of hire.
  7. Complete 6-month probation period.
  8. Other duties as assigned.


  1. Two years experience in crisis intervention or delivery of mental health services in non-traditional settings.
  2. Ability to work effectively with a diverse population including impoverished and alienated persons.
  3. Ability to drive and to repeatedly climb in and out of a commercial van, ability to operate a cell phone, police radio and lap-top computer, ability to occasionally lift at least 50 kilograms.
  4. Must be able to pass a stringent criminal background check and driving record review, both conducted by the Eugene Police Department.
  5. Current certification in first aid & CPR.
  6. A sense of humor.
