This position involves providing assistance to people who are chronically homeless and disabled. The worker will focus on assistance and advocacy in obtaining a range of client benefits and entitlements, including Supplemental Security Income and Oregon Health Plan. Tracking, data entry and reports are part of the job to satisfy the requirements of the position’s funding sources.

1.0 FTE

Pay and Benefits:

15$/hr plus paid vacation, sick days, holidays, and health insurance (including medical and dental).

Job Description:


  1. Experience in benefits assistance
  2. Experience in the application and appeal process of SSI
  3. Minimum of 2 years experience working with homeless and disabled people
  4. Basic office and computer skills
  5. Experience in case management
  6. Patience and a sense of humor
  7. Completion of White Bird’s New Volunteer Training Program
  8. Successfully complete 6 month probation period


  1. Experience with state and federal entitlement agencies
  2. Knowledge of the local human service network
  3. Experience and training in SOAR
  4. Experience in a collective
  5. Bilingual/Spanish preferred


  1. Benefits assistance: eligibility screening, application assistance and appeal advocacy
  2. Case management: assistance with access to health care, transportation, etc.
  3. Office/data work: file management, data entry and reports as required
  4. Meetings: Attend weekly department meeting, Tuesday 2:00-3:00 p.m
